It tells the story of a painter who is unexpectedly drawn into a different world when he loses hope in life. After being influenced by inner hints and different world elements, he regains confidence in life and returns to his own world.
This project was completed in collaboration with my classmate Jiang Xin. Firstly, she told me that she wanted to design a story that travels through different worlds, so that we could design more elements, scenes, and effects. Then, I designed the general background and framework of the entire story.

Portal effect
In our story, a portal was required as the key element to travel between different worlds. For this project, I experimented with a new approach: using Houdini to create the model and animation, while leveraging Unreal Engine’s shader system to achieve the final portal effect.

Elephant slide model and model dissipation test
In the initial design, many objects in the scene would dissipate over time, and the core object of the chess piece was this elephant slide. Therefore, in the early stages of production, I tested its dissipation effect

Firstly, I added cloth simulation to the plane for the paper
Later, I realized that combining cloth simulation with dissipation would be quite complex, so I opted to use VEX to directly animate the fluttering of paper, and then add dissipation effects to it
